In a few words, what does being a “Trailblazer” mean to you, and how did your path into wealth management begin?
When I first saw the word Trailblazer, my initial thought was, “That’s not me—I’m just doing my job.” Then I remembered my business partner recently nicknamed me “the Axe” at our holiday party, so perhaps there is some correlation after all.
I’ve never been afraid to take the road less traveled, as long as I can visualize what’s possible. I take pride in uncovering unconventional solutions to challenges, and that mindset has been a consistent driver throughout my career.
Like many women in wealth management, my path included several unexpected turns and detours. I started as a teller at a national bank during the Great Financial Recession—and I was genuinely grateful to have a job. Fortunately, large banks offer a clear corporate ladder, which allowed my entry-level role to evolve into a personal banking role. I became licensed just enough to sell insurance and annuities, but providing those services didn’t quite scratch the itch. I wanted to do more than open accounts or talk about insurance.
I soon transitioned to the brokerage arm as a client service associate at a broker-dealer. I worked closely with several financial advisors, supporting their practices and learning the industry, their clients, and the behind-the-scenes rhythm of operations. I met many incredible financial professionals during that time—many of whom I still stay in touch with today. Still, being a client service associate wasn’t enough for me. I watched the advisors in their fancy corner offices, on the 20th something floor and knew I wanted more.
Through a series of interviews, I joined an investment management firm that—aside from our firm today—was one of the best places I’ve ever worked. I served as an internal wholesaler, positioning SMAs, mutual funds, and ETFs to advisors on the West Coast. The team was exceptional and taught me far more than R-squared and duration. The one thing they probably should have asked in the interview was whether I knew anything about sports. That would have been a hard “no,” and it’s not easy building relationships as an East Coast internal with West Coast advisors who care deeply about football/basketball, you name it.
Eventually, I was approached by an advisory firm in Richmond to join their team as a financial advisor. Opportunities like that don’t come along often, but this one truly fell into my lap. While it was difficult to leave the investment management firm, I missed working directly with clients. I spent seven years at that advisory firm, earning multiple designations and building my practice.
On May 24, 2024, the four of us made the bold decision to depart that firm and launch Founders Grove Wealth Partners. We could not have achieved such a milestone without the incredible support of the Dynasty, who helped us pave our own path forward.
When you first entered the industry, what did the landscape look like for women, and what early lessons still shape how you lead today?
When I first entered the industry, the landscape was very gender specific. Women were most often placed in administrative or support roles, while advisory and leadership positions were largely held by men. It was very typical for that period of time in the industry especially with a large broker dealer firm.
Outside of that environment, I saw the industry slowly starting to evolve with more women in sales roles and leadership roles. I have never been one to just stay in my lane so as I witnessed the careers for successful men and women, I thought to myself, if they can do it, so can I.
One of the most enduring lessons that continues to shape how I lead today is the importance of staying connected and curious. I’ve made a point to maintain relationships with the people I learned the most from throughout my career. I also became actively involved in our local Financial Planning Association and encouraged other leaders to join. Surrounding yourself with both seasoned professionals and those bringing fresh ideas makes you a more informed and adaptable leader. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, share ideas, and learn continuously.
What challenges have you faced along the way, and what mindset or skills helped you push through and keep going?
Like many, I’ve faced my share of challenges along the way. None of us would be a part of this community if the path had been easy. Challenges are inherent in building something meaningful.
I come back to my business partner referring to me as “the Axe”. I see a hurdle, something that needs to be fixed, or improved, or taken down – I swing hard, and I swing with intention. I trust my instincts and make decisions I believe in without waffling.
That decisiveness, paired with clarity, has helped me move forward even in moments of uncertainty. I may not always know the outcome, but I know the decision is right at the time it’s made. Whether that mindset was developed over the course of my career or simply part of who I am, I can’t say.

Where are you today in your career, and what unique perspectives do you believe women bring to wealth management and leadership?
Today, I am pinching myself as a Founder and Managing Partner of Founders Grove Wealth Partners based in Richmond Virginia. A few years shy of 40, I am running a successful firm alongside three other incredibly talented partners, backed by years of experience in wealth management. I proudly grew my business 40% last year and entering 2026 with strong momentum and optimism for our continued success.
I am a firm believer that both men and women bring valuable and complementary attributes to wealth management and leadership. I find our strengths complement each other especially when running a financial services business and client meetings. That said, our firm is a bit of a unicorn as we consist of three female partners and one male partner. It is no secret that all three women with small children nonetheless, have an uncanny ability to multitask and remain adaptable. These perspectives have helped us foster a deeper collaboration, thoughtful reframing of our challenges, clear prioritization and a culture of transparency which benefits both our firm and the clients we serve.
Looking ahead, what excites you most about the future of women in wealth management, and what advice would you give to the next generation of trailblazers?
I am a teller, turned client service associate, internal wholesaler, to financial advisor, and now business owner in less than two decades. There is no ceiling anymore; it’s all about what you make of your talents, experience, and of course hard work. Trailblazers do not expect anything to be given to them – they make their own path, bring their own axe to clear their own obstacles, and define their own success.
The best advice I can share to the next generation of Trailblazers comes from my own experience: know when to pivot. I have made three integral pivots in my career, the last being the hardest and daring of breaking away from another RIA to launch Founders Grove Wealth Partners. It was risky, bold, turned some heads, and the best decision I have made. No regrets!
